Our Environments

Garden

18 months -3.5 years old

A nurturing welcome awaits our toddlers when they transition from home to school. Their teacher, together with the class assistants, care and guide this little group of explorers. The focus at this stage is on developing a degree of independence, social skills and an introduction to purposeful activity.

Park

3.5 years - 6 years

A dynamic learning environment awaits our children when they migrate to Willows Park. The children explore their world and develop awareness and general knowledge through working in the Cultural, Practical Life, Sensory, Language and Maths areas. Creativity and movement are encouraged through integrated activities of Art, Music, Dance, Drama and Gym.

Primary School

Grade 1 -7

Small classes provide an individualised and collaborative learning environment. The children are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning, to exercise independence and to think creatively. The co-curricular activities of Music, Drama, Dance, Art, Sport, isi-Zulu and Afrikaans aim to give the pupils a rounded curriculum.

About Montessori

– a synopsis of her life and work -

Maria Montessori (1870 – 1952) was a phenomenal visionary, humanitarian, philosopher, doctor, scientist and educator, and of course, the creator of the Montessori method of education. She challenged the norms of her time, becoming Italy’s first female graduate in medicine. Through her studies she became an accomplished scientist and observer. Having practised medicine for fifteen years, she became interested in education through tending to children in a mental asylum. She opened the “Casa dei Bambini”, or “Children’s house”, in the slums of Rome, treating it as an educational laboratory in which to develop her theories of child development and education. In 1909 she published “The Montessori Method”, thereafter embarking on a series of lectures and establishing schools. Many of today’s teachers and educational institutions all over the world have been enriched by her legacy of observations and child development philosophy.
